Moving to the Maintenance Cloud

Ian Monaghan (Claremont) and Jay West (EAM Masters) recently spoke at the UKOUG Apps17 event about moving to the Oracle Maintenance Cloud. They provided some great insights into the benefits of transitioning to the new Oracle Cloud Maintenance solution.

Download the event slides here.

Released in September 2017, the Oracle Maintenance Cloud replaces existing ‘on-premise’ maintenance solutions and has received widespread interest from both existing customers running Oracle’s existing EBS Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) module aswell as JD Edward’s Customers running the existing Plant and Maintenance module. It has also seen extensive interest from new customers interested in moving to a cloud based maintenance solution.

In addition to explaining the new functionality available in the Oracle Maintenance Cloud application, the presentation explained the importance of a cloud-based maintenance and asset management approach for Customers, demonstrating that the focus of the product enables them to maximise the use of their Assets through:

  • optimising their life, cost and production capacity
  • ensuring their compliance with environmental and safety regulations
  • increasing maintenance worker’s productivity by simplifying the effort associated with asset maintenance activities whilst reducing the time needed by maintenance planners in performing planning and scheduling activities
  • reducing unplanned downtime through the introduction of preventative and condition-based maintenance routines

Benefits of the latest release

Release 13 of the Oracle Cloud platform became available in September 2017 and provides Customers with a solid foundation to allow them to define their detailed asset data, planning and work order processes as well as providing standard integration with Oracle’s Financial, Inventory and Purchasing cloud applications.

The new user interface offered in Maintenance Cloud is designed to be more intuitive, efficient, and consistent across multiple devices with a specific focus directed to mobile workers. The user interface is further optimized by allowing users to tailor their own landing pages allowing quick access to ‘actionable information’ in just a few clicks.

Transition strategies

Jay and Ian explained that the implementation strategy for Oracle Maintenance Cloud can be aligned to specific business needs with three possible implementation approaches provided to Customers looking to deploy Oracle Maintenance Cloud:

  1. A ‘Big Bang’ approach – where all ERP apps are transitioned to cloud at once, including Oracle Maintenance Cloud
  2. A ‘One App at a Time’ approach – where individual cloud applications are rolled out as they mature
  3. A ‘Roadmap’ approach – where a proactive evaluation is performed of each new release before deploying specific cloud applications
